Skin Exams

Regular skin exams are recommended for patients who are at risk for developing skin cancer in their lifetime. Such patients include patients who have a personal or family history of skin cancers, a family history of melanoma, a personal history of tanning bed use, a history of lifeguarding or other heavy sun exposures, as well as those patients with a high number of moles on their body. Patients who have a history of atypical moles are also at higher risk for skin cancer, and should be monitored frequently. Studies have repeatedly shown that regular skin exams by a board-certified dermatologist leads to earlier detection of skin cancers with better patient outcomes.

Actinic Keratoses

These are precancerous lesions that are caused by years of sun damage. If left alone, these can transform into skin cancers which are more problematic. Often they will appear as persistent rough, scaly patches on heavily sun exposed areas (face, arms, hands, chest) and they may be sore to the touch. There are numerous treatment options available for actinic keratoses, such as liquid nitrogen (freezing), photodynamic therapy (PDT) or topical medications used at home. Dr. Finkel will work with you to determine the best treatment approach for your individual needs.

Acne and Rosacea

While very common, no two patients are the same in their acne or rosacea. These conditions can appear at any point in life and Dr. Finkel will develop an appropriate treatment plan based on your specific skin needs.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis affects nearly 3% of the United States adult population, making it one of the most common autoimmune skin diseases. It can also affect the joints, and cause debilitating Psoriatic Arthritis in some patients. Proper treatment is crucial to restoring both function and quality of life for patients with skin and/or joint disease. We are fortunate to have numerous treatment options, but one size does not fit all. Taking all of your health details into consideration, Dr. Finkel will develop the most appropriate treatment plan for you and your particular psoriasis needs.

Rashes

Dr. Finkel evaluates and treats a wide variety of rashes, such as eczema, psoriasis, lichen planus, allergic contact dermatitis and many other skin conditions. Each of these conditions are unique, and require a thoughtful approach to the proper treatment for each patient.
